Joe McPhee and Decoy have just completed a four-day residency at Café Oto in Dalston. It was an extraordinary combination of four outstanding musicians: Joe McPhee on saxophone, John Edwards on bass, Steve Noble on drums and Alexander Hawkins on organ. Each musician reveals how far the boundaries of their individual instruments can be pushed, yet at the same time respond so sensitively to each other. Their sets develop to a relentless crescendo with drummer Steve Noble forcing the pace and then die away to a sublime silence.
